Star Trek: The Next Generation was created by legendary producer, Gene Roddenberry, twenty-one years after his original cult Star Trek series first aired in 1966. The action takes place in the year 2634, 100 years after the start of the five-year mission depicted in the original show. It featured an entirely new cast led by Patrick Stewart (X-Men) and ran for a total of 178 episodes between September 28th, 1987 and May 23rd, 1994.
When the series, affectionately know as TNG, premiered, it did so to 27 million viewers with a two-hour pilot entitled, “Encounter at Farpoint”.
Patrick Stewart in his coveted role as Jean Luc Picard, Captain of the Enterprise, became one of the most beloved actors on syndicated television and receives volumes of fan-mail for his pitch-perfect performance right up to the present day!
