Marilyn 'Playful on the Beach' by André de Dienes

A wonderfully joyful black and white silver gelatin print of Marilyn Monroe taken by Andre de Dienes in 1949. The image is of Monroe playing on the beach.

The image has been hand-printed by de Dienes on double-weight paper and hand stamped by the photographer on verso. It is also accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from OneWest Publishing.

This photo was captured at Tobey Beach, off the South Shore of Long Island, New York, in 1949, when Marilyn, then known as Norma Jeane Mortenson, was only 23 years old. A storm had cleared the beach of bathers by early morning. When it had passed by mid-afternoon, Andre captured this delightfully playful photo of Marilyn on a deserted beach bathed in beautiful late-afternoon sunlight.
