Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 & 2 (2010 / 2011): Production-Made Death Eater 'Skull' Wand
Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 & 2 (2010 / 2011): Production-Made Death Eater 'Skull' Wand
An original production-made Death Eater wand, created for the seventh and eighth instalments of the internationally celebrated Harry Potter film series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010) and Part 2 (2011).
Constructed from cast resin and individually hand-painted, the wand displays the deliberately sinister, macabre aesthetic associated with Lord Voldemort’s followers. The sculpted grip is dominated by an elaborate skull and serpent motif, with a white-painted skeletal figure contrasting dramatically against the predominantly brown, aged-looking finish of the wand.
Measuring approximately 34.4 cm in length, the piece has been designed to resemble an organic, almost bone-like magical implement rather than the more traditional polished wooden wands carried by many of the series’ principal characters. The irregular sculpting and hand-applied painted surface give the prop an appropriately ancient and threatening appearance.
The Death Eaters are among the most recognisable antagonists within J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World. Loyal to Lord Voldemort, they are characterised throughout the films by their dark robes, distinctive masks and an aesthetic heavily influenced by imagery of death, serpents, bones and metalwork.
Wands associated with Death Eater characters were frequently designed with darker and more aggressive forms than those belonging to Hogwarts students and members of the Order of the Phoenix. Bone-like sculpting, skeletal imagery and silver-coloured detailing helped reinforce the characters’ fascination with mortality, blood status and the Dark Arts.
The skull and serpent decoration present on this example is particularly appropriate. The serpent is one of the most important visual symbols associated with Voldemort, appearing prominently within the Dark Mark and reflecting his connection with snakes and ability to speak Parseltongue. When combined with the skull motif, it creates an immediately recognisable visual connection with the Death Eaters and their allegiance to the Dark Lord.
As a production-made piece rather than a commercially manufactured replica, the wand represents the type of specialist prop work created to populate the physical world of the films. Such pieces were produced to provide the Death Eater characters and background performers with individualised magical weapons and to maintain the richly detailed visual language for which the film series became renowned.
An outstanding original production prop from the concluding chapters of one of cinema's most celebrated fantasy series.
The wand remains in excellent production-used condition, displaying authentic studio hand-painting, production ageing and handling wear.

- Additional Information
The final Harry Potter films introduced an extraordinary range of individually sculpted Death Eater wands, each designed to reinforce the identity and visual character of Voldemort's followers. Original production-made examples are considerably scarcer than their licensed counterparts and offer collectors a direct connection to the craftsmanship of the Harry Potter prop department. The skull-and-serpent design is among the most distinctive created for the series and remains one of the defining Death Eater wand styles.
