Marilyn Monroe in Repose - The Seven Year Itch by Bernard of Hollywood

Marilyn Monroe in Repose - The Seven Year Itch by Bernard of Hollywood

This beautiful and arresting extra-large format colour photograph of Marilyn Monroe shows her relaxing in the screening room at 20th Century Fox, whilst wearing her most iconic dress and heels from ‘The Seven Year Itch’ (1955). The edition is numbered 5/50 and is signed by the estate of photographer, Bruno Bernard, in the lower margin.

The Seven Year Itch, directed by Billy Wilder (Some Like it Hot, The Apartment), delivers Marilyn’s most enduring and iconic image - that of an exuberant Miss Monroe standing over a subway grating, whilst air from a passing train below lifts her skirt and cools her legs.

The film arguably presents Marilyn at her most beautiful, as she dazzles in every scene in which she appears. She effortlessly creates a delicious subtext of sexually charged innocence, and her comic timing is impeccable.

Bernard is credited with popularising pin-up photography and first photographed Marilyn, then Norma Jeane, in 1947.

PROVENANCE From the Estate of Bruno Bernard. This item comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
