Bruce Lee Training with Van Williams - The Green Hornet, Framed Exhibition Photograph
A beautiful 21.5 x 21.5" exhibition print showing Bruce Lee training Van Williams, his co-star on the legendary 60s TV series, The Green Hornet (1966-1967).
This timeless and indelible black and white image has been printed on premium Kodak stock.
This stunning print was specially created for exhibition purposes and is framed in matt-black wood with museum grade glass.
Bruce Lee and Van Williams had wonderful chemistry on-screen and were good friends off-screen. Van had a great physique and could throw a decent punch, but Bruce provided him with some bespoke training to further his personal development and to help him better perform the action scenes in the show. Each of Bruce Lee's students received a tailored programme. Lee assessed their physical strengths, weaknesses, and natural attributes, then built training around those specifics rather than forcing every student through an identical curriculum. He saw himself not as a traditional teacher but as a guide to self-discovery, pointing students toward their own potential rather than moulding them in his image.
Photographer Chester Maydole was hired to shoot a series of publicity photos for The Green Hornet TV Show, including the famous beach training photos of Bruce Lee and Van Williams. He captured images across four separate sessions between April/May and December 1966, working at several California locations — including Malibu Beach, Portuguese Bend in South Los Angeles, and Bruce Lee's apartment at Barrington Plaza. Maydole originally created the images as publicity shots for The Green Hornet (1966–1967), capturing the physical chemistry and dynamism between Lee, who played Kato, and Williams, who played the titular hero — but the photographs long outlasted their promotional purpose and today stand among the most iconic images of Bruce Lee ever taken.
This beautiful and historic photo would make a wonderful addition to the portfolio of any discerning collector of Bruce Lee memorabilia.

- Additional Information
During the production of the Green Hornet TV Show, Bruce Lee's movements were so fast that cameras literally couldn't capture them — producers had to film certain sequences in slow motion just to make his techniques visible. Audiences had simply never seen a human body move like that on television, and the reaction was immediate: Lee's Kato quickly became the show's real star, with Van Williams himself going to bat with producers to secure Lee more screen time. The American martial arts community embraced the show and viewed Lee as their first mainstream star.
