Alien - Replica Model of the USCSS Nostromo with Oil Refinery
Hand-Built by Martin BowerÂ
This impressive hand-built replica recreates the USCSS Nostromo and attached Ore Refinery from Ridley Scott's 1979 science fiction masterpiece Alien. Constructed by renowned model maker Martin Bower, this beautifully detailed piece is crafted from plastic, wood, and Perspex, capturing the distinctive industrial aesthetic of the original screen-used miniatures designed for the film.
Bower's exceptional craftsmanship is evident throughout the model's fine surface detailing, weathered finish, and structural complexity that bring the iconic spacecraft to life. Built entirely by hand, this striking tribute stands as a testament to one of cinema's most recognizable vessels. The model is displayed on a custom stand, and the Nostromo detaches from the refinery just as it did in the film.Â
About The Film
Alien (1979) stands as a masterclass in atmospheric horror and science fiction, blending the two genres in a way that had never been achieved before. Ridley Scott's claustrophobic direction transforms the commercial towing vessel Nostromo into a pressure cooker of mounting dread, where every shadow and corridor becomes a potential death trap. H.R. Giger's biomechanical creature design created one of cinema's most terrifying and iconic monsters—a perfect organism whose grotesque beauty has influenced countless films since. Sigourney Weaver's groundbreaking performance as Ellen Ripley established a new archetype for female action heroes, proving that strength and vulnerability could coexist in genre cinema. The film's deliberate pacing, stunning practical effects, and industrial production design by Ron Cobb and Chris Foss created a lived-in, "used future" aesthetic that made the world feel tangible and real. Nearly five decades later, Alien remains unmatched in its ability to generate sustained tension and primal fear, cementing its status as not just a science fiction landmark, but one of the greatest films ever made.

- Additional Information
One of the most legendary anecdotes from the making of Alien involves the iconic chestburster scene, which remains one of cinema's most shocking moments. Director Ridley Scott deliberately kept the cast in the dark about the full graphic nature of what would happen during the sequence. While the actors knew something would emerge from John Hurt's chest, they had no idea about the explosive, blood-soaked violence they were about to witness.
The special effects crew told the actors they'd "get a little blood" on them, but when the scene was filmed, they rigged it with blood cannons that sprayed the cast with torrents of gore. The real-life shock and revulsion on the actors' faces was completely genuine—their horror wasn't acting, it was authentic surprise captured on camera. During preview screenings, the impact was so visceral that some audience members literally fled the theater, and at least one theater employee reportedly fainted. Other viewers moved to the back rows because they couldn't bear to sit too close to the screen during that sequence.
This calculated deception by Scott created what would become one of the most memorable and frequently referenced moments in film history, proving that sometimes the best performances come from catching actors completely off guard.
