Kill Bill: VOL1 Original US One-Sheet (Mylar Advance)

The evocative and highly collectable original one-sheet advance poster for Kill Bill: Vol 1 (Miramax 2003).

Kill Bill (2003-2004), directed by Quentin Tarantino, is a two-part martial arts action film that follows The Bride (Uma Thurman), a former assassin seeking vengeance against her former colleagues, collectively known as the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. After a brutal attack on her and the loss of her unborn child, The Bride survives a four-year coma and embarks on a bloody quest for revenge against the five people who wronged her.

In the first volume (Kill Bill: Volume 1), The Bride systematically hunts down and kills two of the squad members: O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu), the ruthless leader of the Japanese Yakuza, and Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox), a former assassin now living a suburban life. The film is a high-octane blend of stylish martial arts sequences, samurai sword fights, and revenge-driven narrative, filled with homages to classic kung fu and exploitation films.

Kill Bill is known for its unique storytelling, blending genres like martial arts, westerns, and revenge films. It features Tarantino's signature use of non-linear narrative, striking visuals, and over-the-top violence, making it a cult classic in modern action cinema.

This breathtaking advance poster features a beautiful silver finish on the blade of the sword. This stunning example is rolled and remains in outstanding condition.

  • Additional Information

One of the standout moments in Kill Bill is the legendary fight scene between Uma Thurman (The Bride) and the 88-strong "Crazy 88" gang, led by O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu). Tarantino originally envisioned a long, intricate fight sequence in which The Bride faces off against the entire gang in a Japanese nightclub. However, Uma Thurman, who had trained for months in martial arts and sword fighting, actually injured herself while filming the scene.

In one of the rehearsals for the fight, Thurman, while performing an intense sword fight move, slipped and twisted her knee badly. Despite the pain, she kept going, and Tarantino was impressed with her dedication to the role. What’s even more interesting is that the injury led to the delay of the filming, but it also gave Tarantino time to rethink the scene. He decided to shoot it in a highly stylized, black-and-white format to mask the blood and gore, which allowed him to create a more artistic and visually striking sequence, especially considering the high level of violence in the fight.

This decision resulted in one of the most iconic scenes in the film, and Thurman's injury became an odd but pivotal moment that helped shape the movie's final look and feel. The dedication from both the director and the actress made the film's epic battle sequence a standout in modern action cinema.
