Goldeneye - Syd Cain Signed Concept Sketch - Train and Bridge Jump Sequence
Product Description
A beautiful and detailed production concept sketch, rendered on A3 paper in mixed media, by eminent 007 art director and production design legend, Syd Cain (1918-2011).
This highly desirable concept artwork shows James Bond, played by Pierce Brosnan, and Natalya Simonova, played by Izabella Scorupco, jumping off a bridge, hand-in-hand, from Alec Trevelyan's train - presumably to avoid death or capture. This very entertaining scene was unfortunately not included in the final cut of the film. Instead, knowing Trevelyan has rigged the train to explode, Bond engineers his escape with Natalya by cutting an escape hole in the iron-plated floor (with the laser in his watch). James and Natalya then dash along the train tracks, achieving the minimum safe distance just seconds before the train explodes! The dramatic high points and action DNA shown in this concept artwork have, however, been transposed to the climax of the opening pre-title action sequence. Instead of leaping off a bridge, Bond jumps a motorcycle off a mountain and descends in freefall towards a pilotless airplane in a steep dive, which he must enter and fly to safety to avoid certain death!
Syd Cain is one of the best loved and most prolific of the James Bond production alumni. In addition to his work on Goldeneye, Cain was also production designer for On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Live and Let Die. He also served as art director on From Russia With Love and assisted Ken Adam as Art Director for the Jamaica sequences in Dr No. Finally, he is also credited as supervising art director on Live and Let Die.
Cain was also a storyboard artist on 'The Muppet Christmas Carol and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He also worked with Stanley Kubrick as associate art director on Lolita and with Alfred Hitchcock as Production Designer for Frenzy. His other credits include Production Designer on Wild Geese, Gold and Sea Wolves with James Bond star, Roger Moore, as well as The New Avengers, Who Dares Wins, Truffaut's Fahrenheit 451 and Ken Russell's Billion Dollar Brain.
As the dynamic sequence detailed in this artwork does not appear in the final movie, it provides a fascinating insight into the unseen development phase of this very popular film.
This historic concept art remains in very good production-used condition and is perfect for framing. This artwork is sold without copyright.

Goldeneye is a landmark film in the James Bond franchise, returning the gentleman super-spy to cinema screens after an enforced six-year hiatus caused by long-running legal disputes. The movie and it’s new star, Pierce Brosnan, received rave reviews, and the film, deftly directed by Martin Campbell, grossed a total of $352,194,034 at the worldwide box-office. Audiences had spoken - James Bond was still as popular and compelling as he had always been. Goldeneye proved to be the golden ticket.
