James Bond - Le Cercle £10 Casino Rose Plaque (Casino Chip), Dr. No (1962)
A rare and highly collectable rose-coloured gaming plaque from Les Ambassadeurs Club, Mayfair, London. This chip was part of £35,000 consignment of chips loaned to the EON production of the first James Bond film, Dr No, at the request of its director, Terence Young.
Le Cercle casino chips were used in the scene, which first introduced moviegoers to Sean Connery as James Bond and during which he utters what might be the most famous line in movie history! Connery played against British actress, Eunice Gayson, on a casino set built by the now legendary production designer, Ken Adam, at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.
In the movie, the scene unfolds in the elegant and exclusive Le Cercle at London’s Les Ambassadeurs Club. The camera lingers on the soft clatter of chips and cards at a smoky baccarat table, where the wealthy and well-dressed social elite are gathered under the warm glow of chandeliers.
A poised woman in a red gown—Sylvia Trench—is playing chemin de fer. She is loosing to a man dressed in a sharp black tuxedo, whose face is hidden from the audience's view. He calmly wins another hand. As she slides more chips forward, she studies him with amused curiosity. Their flirtatious exchange begins:
Sylvia Trench: “I admire your luck, Mr...?”
(Without looking up, the man smoothly lights a cigarette, then meets her gaze to utter his name with effortless precision.)
James Bond: “Bond... James Bond.”
It’s the first time the character speaks on screen, and the effect is immediate: suave, controlled, and unmistakably charismatic. Sean Connery’s delivery is smooth and deliberate, with a slight smirk—setting the tone for everything the cinematic James Bond would come to represent.
The scene is simple in structure but monumental in impact. Connery’s presence, his tailored dinner jacket, the cigarette, the setting—it all aligns perfectly to introduce an enduring icon of cinema. Few lines in film history have been delivered with such style or have become so instantly unforgettable.
The plaque, which remains in good production used condition, is made of a glossy composite material embossed with "Le Cercle". All original examples, including this one, are engraved with a unique four-digit serial number. The unique number for this plaque is 0195.
The chips were originally manufactured by B et G in France and delivered to the Le Cercle casino in April 1961 in preparation for the casino's grand opening in May of the same year.
This £10 plaque was previously owned by Robert Mills, son of Le Cercles owner, John Mills, and comes with a signed Letter of Authenticity together with a Certificate of Authenticity. It is one of a very small number of original Le Cercle plaques from 'Dr No' available today, as most have not survived the passing years.

The Le Cercle scene is legendary for being the first-ever appearance of James Bond on film, introducing Sean Connery as 007 with the immortal line, “Bond, James Bond.” What many don’t realise is that this now-classic moment nearly didn’t unfold with such effortless confidence.
During rehearsals at Les Ambassadeurs Club in Mayfair, director Terence Young was concerned that Connery—still relatively unknown at the time—wasn’t fully inhabiting the suave, worldly persona of Bond. Young, a former army officer with impeccable style and polish, took it upon himself to personally mentor Connery, even taking him to his own tailor and hairdresser to refine his look. He also brought Connery to exclusive clubs like Les Ambassadeurs to immerse him in Bond’s world of high-stakes gambling and effortless sophistication.
Connery reportedly practised the “Bond, James Bond” line dozens of times to master the right tone—cool, unhurried, and assured. On the day of filming, when Connery finally delivered the line while lighting a cigarette at the baccarat table opposite Sylvia Trench, everyone on set felt the electricity in the room. Even crew members not directly involved in the shot paused to watch the take, sensing that a cinematic legend was being born.
The finished scene, though short, defined the Bond persona—and Le Cercle became a symbolic birthplace of the 007 mythos.
