Assassin's Creed (2016) - An Original Production-Made Curved Sword

An original production-made curved sword created for the 2016 feature film Assassin's Creed.

Featuring a distinctive curved blade together with an ornate hilt and expertly applied production ageing, this sword was created as part of the extensive practical armoury produced for the film's exciting action sequences in 15th Century Spain.

Curved swords of this type formed part of the extensive armoury created for the Templar forces seen throughout the film’s 1492 Spanish sequences. Such weapons can be seen in the hands of Templar soldiers during their confrontations with Aguilar (Michael Fassbender) and the Spanish Assassin Brotherhood.

This spectacular and ambitious action sequence unfolds, as Aguilar de Nerha and María attempt to rescue Prince Ahmed of Granada from the Templar forces.

The confrontation begins after the Templars locate and capture the young prince, intending to use him as a bargaining tool to force his father, Sultan Muhammad XII, to surrender the coveted Apple of Eden. Aguilar infiltrates the gathering and assassinates the Templar commander Ramirez, providing the signal for the assembled Assassins to launch their attack.

What follows is a chaotic battle between the Assassin Brotherhood and heavily armed Templar soldiers. Swords, spears, shields and other period weapons feature prominently as the combat moves rapidly through the settlement. Despite being heavily outnumbered, Aguilar and María fight their way through the Templar forces in an attempt to reach the captive prince.

María succeeds in taking control of the carriage carrying Ahmed, transforming the battle into a fast-moving pursuit across the rugged Spanish landscape. Templar soldiers give chase on horseback, repeatedly attempting to board and retake the carriage, while María fights off attackers and struggles to keep the vehicle under control. Aguilar joins the pursuit, moving between horses and carriage while confronting the formidable Templar warrior Ojeda.

The chase culminates when the uncontrolled carriage hurtles towards a cliff. Aguilar manages to save the prince from falling using equipment incorporated into his Assassin gauntlet, but the rescue leaves him vulnerable and the surviving Assassins are ultimately captured by the Templars.

Combining massed combat, horsemanship, carriage work, stunt fighting and the distinctive weapons of the Templar soldiers, the sequence provides one of the film’s clearest demonstrations of director Justin Kurzel’s grounded approach to the Assassin’s Creed world. Rather than presenting the historical sequences as purely fantastical action, Kurzel sought a tangible physicality, with the fifteenth-century sequences filmed in Spanish and an emphasis placed on practical performance and stunt work.

This rare and original production prop from the world of Assassin's Creed. comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Its elegant silhouette and richly weathered finish distinguish it as one of the more visually striking weapons created for the production.
