Assassin's Creed (2016) An Original Production-Made Spanish Battle Shield

Assassin's Creed (2016) An Original Production-Made Spanish Battle Shield

An original production-made battle shield created for the 2016 feature film Assassin's Creed.

Produced by the film's armoury department, this shield was manufactured for use during the historical battle sequences sent in fifteenth-century Spain.

Professionally distressed to replicate forged medieval steel, the shield displays realistic studio ageing together with authentic production wear accumulated during filming. Its robust construction and convincing finish exemplify the exceptional craftsmanship employed throughout the film's practical armoury.

Rather than simply recreating the world of Ubisoft’s video games, Assassin’s Creed (2016) set out to give the franchise a tangible, cinematic identity. Director Justin Kurzel favoured a grounded visual approach, combining large-scale historical environments, practical stunt work, intricate costumes and purpose-built weaponry to bring the centuries-old conflict between the Assassins and Templars to the screen.

At the centre of the film is Callum Lynch, played by Michael Fassbender, whose connection to his 15th-century ancestor Aguilar de Nerha is unlocked through the Animus. The story moves between the present day and 1492 Spain, allowing the production to reinterpret some of the franchise’s most recognisable imagery—including the Assassin Brotherhood, ceremonial weapons, hooded costumes and acrobatic fighting style—in physical, live-action form.

For collectors, this emphasis on practical filmmaking gives surviving production pieces particular appeal. Props and costume elements from the film represent physical interpretations of designs originating in one of gaming’s most recognisable franchises, while also reflecting the craftsmanship of a major feature-film production. Pieces associated with the Assassins, Templars and the film’s historical sequences are especially evocative of the distinctive aesthetic created for Kurzel’s adaptation.

This excellent original production prop from the Assassin's Creed universe comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

  • Additional Information

Director Justin Kurzel was determined to give Assassin’s Creed a tangible, physical quality, favouring real locations, performers and practical stunt work wherever possible. The production assembled an exceptional team of athletes and stunt performers to discover how much of the seemingly superhuman movement from the video games could actually be achieved in front of the camera.

Perhaps the most spectacular example was the franchise’s celebrated “Leap of Faith”. Rather than create the sequence entirely with visual effects, stunt performer Damien Walters performed a free fall of approximately 125 feet (38 metres) for the film. This commitment to practical film-making extended throughout the action sequences, with Michael Fassbender and Ariane Labed undertaking much of their own fight action
