Marilyn Monroe - 'Peasant Sitting' by Milton Greene
A beautifully evocative and cinematic portrait of Marilyn from photographer Milton Greene's much-loved 'Peasant Sitting'.Â
Milton truly believed in Marilyn's ability as a dramatic actress and wanted to showcase her under considered talents in this area. Whilst ambling through the 20th Century Fox studio backlot on a carefree Sunday afternoon, Milton and Marilyn conjured up the idea of Marilyn posing as a peasant girl. To bring their vision to life, they temporarily liberated the costume Jennifer Jones had worn for her Oscar-winning performance in 'The Song of Bernadette'. They decided the French village set for the movie, 'What Price Glory', would provide the perfect backdrop. With the main components of their creative vision in place, they shot a beautiful series of photographs on the very next day - May 24th, 1954.
This stunning large-format print has been rendered on Hahnemuhle Albrecht Durer Paper. It features the printed signature, 'Milton H. Greene', in the lower right corner.
The Copyright stamp of the Milton H Greene Archives Inc. is present on the reverse with the hand written date '2007'. The official print ID (P93, EX3), printing date (3/14/03) and the signature of the estate manager 'Joshua Greene' - all rendered in pencil - also appear verso.
