Marilyn Monroe 'Surfer Girl' By André de Dienes
Tobey Beach, Long Island, 1949
A superb black and white silver-gelatin print of Marilyn Monroe taken by Andre de Dienes in 1949. The image is of Monroe playing on the beach. Hand printed by de Dienes on double-weight paper, hand numbered 3/3 and stamped by the photographer on verso, this stunning photo is also accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from OneWest Publishing.
This photo was captured at Tobey Beach, off the South Shore of Long Island, New York, in 1949, when Marilyn, then known as Norma Jeane Mortenson, was only 23 years old. A storm had cleared the beach of bathers by early morning. When it had passed by mid-afternoon, André captured this dynamic photo of Marilyn playfully simulating the movements of a sexy surfer on a beautiful deserted beach bathed in radiant late-afternoon sunlight.
