Tomorrow Never Dies - Rare Samsonite Promotional Briefcase

Tomorrow Never Dies - Rare Samsonite Promotional Briefcase

This fantastic Samsonite promotional briefcase, created for Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), is a stylish and rare collectible issued to VIPs and partners at the film’s premiere. It is highly praised by collectors of prestige James Bond memorabilia.

The briefcase is a custom Samsonite Focus De Luxe attaché model, featuring a sleek black hardshell exterior, a gold combination lock, gold-opening levers, and a brown leather handle. Inside, it has a sand-and-brown leather lining.

It contains a curated selection of promotional items from sponsors:

  • Miniature Smirnoff vodka with shot glass

  • Heineken beer can (only present in some versions)

  • L’Oréal - Two bottles of L'Oréal Corolle LaqueResist nail varnish (black and gold)

  • Paul’s Model Art - BMW 7 Series Toy Car

  • Ericsson GF 788 calculator phone

  • Avis key ring (“For your eyes only…” box)

  • Wilkinson Sword razor with Tomorrow Never Dies packaging

  • Visa multi-tool credit-card accessory (knife, opener, tweezers, magnifier, compass)

This particular version of the briefcase formed part of a prize package offered by London’s Capital Radio to mark the release of Tomorrow Never Dies in 1997. EON Productions’ official publicity team donated the case to Capital, and we later acquired it directly from the original competition winner.

To win the prize, Capital Radio invited listeners to share their best James Bond-related story. The eventual winner called in and explained that she was friends with British actress, Serena Gordon, who portrayed Caroline in GoldenEye (1995), Pierce Brosnan’s first movie as 007. She recounted several entertaining Bond-related anecdotes from their friendship, which caught the DJ’s attention. He then asked whether Serena Gordon might be open to giving a live interview on air. When Serena agreed, the caller and the actress were jointly awarded the Bond prize package, which they shared by mutual consent.

Caroline is the lovestruck MI6/SIS psychologist sent to evaluate Bond, only to fall into his arms. She appears in the Aston Martin vs. Ferrari chase sequence, which takes place just after the film’s opening titles. She is famous as the first Bond girl of the Brosnan era, and her character also appears in John Gardner's popular novel of the film.

These promotional pieces were highly limited, with estimates suggesting only around 60 units were ever produced. This particular iteration is complete and remains in remarkable condition, given its age.

This item comes with a certificate of Authenticity.

  • Additional Information

Well before the film reached cinemas, MGM launched an ambitious global marketing campaign worth an estimated $100 milliondoubling the scale of the promotional effort behind GoldenEye.

One of the most prominent tie-ins came from Ericsson, whose mobile phones didn’t just feature in the film—they became central to the action. Bond uses the device to unlock doors, trigger explosions, and even remotely pilot his car, effectively making the phone a co-star.

To maximise the impact, Ericsson rolled out a high-profile “Codebreaker” campaign spanning 57 countries and over 20 languages. This international push included in-store activations, dealer incentives, and competitions offering premium prizes such as BMW Z3 Roadsters and Omega watches. It blurred the lines between cinematic promotion and brand marketing in a way few campaigns had attempted before.
