Marilyn Monroe George Barris, The Last Shoot, 1962 (In Sweater, Close Up)
Marilyn Monroe George Barris, The Last Shoot, 1962 (In Sweater, Close Up)
This playful chromogenic print of Marilyn wrapped up in a woollen sweater was personally produced and signed by George Barris in 1987. It measures
10-3/8 x 13-3/8 inches (26.4 x 34.0 cm) and features the artist's signature in ink recto. It is editioned 'A.P.' in ink on the Barris copyright credit stamp verso and was officially published by Marilyn Monroe/Weston Editions, Ltd.
The print has several tiny pinpoints in the sand along the upper left edge, but otherwise is in excellent condition and exhibits no other visible condition issues.Â
This photo was one of the very last to be taken of Marilyn. George Barris remembers: "Late in the afternoon it turned cold and Marilyn was tired. We'd been working hard. She didn't complain, though, and she sat on the beach wrapped in a fisherman's sweater, so I put a blanket over her."
In spite of her reputation, George Barris remembers Marilyn very fondly. At the end of this now legendary final shoot, Marilyn created a very special memory for her favourite photographer: She puckered up and said, "This is just for you, George, and blew a kiss to me."
